Why did Nehemiah need prayer?

Read: Nehemiah Chapters 1-2

  • Nehemiah experienced a broken heart. We have all experienced heart break at some point in our lives. What has broken your heart? 

  • Before God does something great through us, he first does something great in us.

  • Whatever is breaking your heart today, can you find a way to treasure the things that break your heart? Is there a bigger picture/lesson that God wants you to see or learn? What is being accomplished, according to His will, for the current heart break you are suffering?

Examine the process of Nehemiah  

  • First he prays to God - he simply goes to God

  • He prays practically - simple and to the point

  • He prays authentically - he shares deeply what is weighing most on his heart

  • Jesus also taught us how to pray when his disciples asked him. He said to pray like this:

    "Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy name;
    thy kingdom come;
    thy will be done;
    on earth as it is in heaven.
    Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our trespasses,
    as we forgive those who trespass against us.
    And lead us not into temptation;
    but deliver us from evil.
    For thine is the kingdom,
    the power and the glory,
    for ever and ever. Amen."
